PROVINCETOWN (INTERNATIONAL) FILM FESTIVAL (PIFF) - NEWS FROM THE SOURCE
June 19, 2021. Intrepid film reviewer Wendy Shreve has returned from a gathering of festival organizers, participants, sponsors, marvelous volunteers, and other members of the press at the Land's End Inn, Provincetown, MA. Forecasted rain held off, leaving a view that Luchino Visconti would've envied. And, warm, spirited people shared their love of everything independent: they fueled my energy.
From the well-known, Festival angel/supporter a.k.a. actor, Director/Writer John Waters--to the up-and-coming, Director Aaron Bear (Yes I Am, The Rick Weiland Story, to be reviewed), we celebrated the inclusive cinema that the PFF embodies. New Yorkers, West Coasters, regional and national directors--a plethora of talent, giving a shot in the arm to guarantee the future of outlier filmmaking.
Movies have included local stories, e.g. Give or Take (2021), celebrity biographies e.g., Rita Moreno and Alvin Ailey; shorts, feature length and documentary films about and from the global community [See link below for the Festival schedule, including special events.]
Further, diversity, acceptance continues to propel this annual event. On this Juneteenth Day, it seemed fitting that those assembled had come to celebrate and encourage what has passed and what more can be done.
I hope you'll attend the Provincetown (International) Film Festival (streaming also available) to support these gifted visual artists; their passion for all things cinema.
